What ⟎ means
It is a box-min operation. Mathematical morphology uses minimum and maximum operations. In that field and related neural-network notation, ⟎ combines addition with a minimum; the operation is also called morphological erosion.
Gerhard X. Ritter introduced it in technical reports during the 1980s; the earliest cited example is from 1987. A 2009 Unicode proposal linked ⟎ with its box-max companion .
