What ܱ means
In West Syriac, it marks an “a” vowel below its letter. It is nonspacing: it attaches to a Syriac letter. Fonts can shift its appearance; Estrangela, a Syriac style, may omit it. East Syriac uses dotted ܲ.
Syriac dots are attested by the fifth century; they guided pronunciation and distinguished words with the same consonants. In the seventh and eighth centuries, the system grew more detailed, with conceptual links to Hebrew vowel points and early Arabic red-dot vowel marks.
