What ܂ means
It marks a small pause; the sentence can continue.
A Syriac Gospel copy, the Curetonian, preserves a pause dot in 411 CE. By the late seventh century CE, Syriac dots guided biblical recitation. East and West Syriac dots could guide different readings of scripture; an Eastern Syriac commentary credits Yosep Huzaya with nine reading marks.
Beneath final Syriac letter ܗ, one low dot can mark a feminine ending; context separates grammar from punctuation. Manuscripts in Christian Sogdian and Pahlavi traditions retained Syriac punctuation in late Antiquity and the early Middle Ages, but not necessarily this glyph.
Technical Syriac punctuation; outside Syriac writing, it reads as specialist.

1Questions people ask
1Why does ܂ show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Syriac block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
