What 𑚫 means
It marks nasalization in Takri text. The attached vowel is spoken with airflow through the nose.
Takri descended from Sharada through Devāśeṣa, an intermediate script that emerged in the 14th century. Devāśeṣa served religious and official writing; Takri became distinct in the 16th century and was used for commerce and informal writing. From the 17th century until the mid-20th century, regional Takri forms were official in several princely states, or local kingdoms, in northern India.
Takri is related to Gurmukhi and Landa. As of 2026, revival work connects readers with manuscripts (handwritten books) and regional literature. Alone, the mark may appear over a dotted circle, a font placeholder rather than a Takri character.
