What ௩ means
It means three. ௩ is the Tamil 3, the numeral used to write three in Tamil script. 3 has the same value, but is written with Latin-script digits.
Brahmi is an early South Asian script; inscriptions in it and pottery preserve older Tamil-region number-writing evidence. A study of how writing forms change documents recognizable Tamil numerals around 1400 CE and links them to earlier numerals in cave inscriptions. Malayalam numerals are related, but distinct. In older additive notation, ௩ before ௰ means three tens (30): the sign before ௰ gives the count of tens. A 2016 account describes traditional use in limited Tamil-studies circles; a 2025 study records Tamil numerals as page numbers in Sri Lankan palm-leaf manuscripts.
