What 𖪧 means
It marks a consonant, not a whole word.
Tangsa uses separate consonant and vowel letters. In a syllable, the vowel follows the consonant and marks tone, the pitch pattern that can distinguish words.
When did Mossang create the Tangsa script?
Lakhum Mossang created it in 1990.
He designed it for Muishvung (Mossang), his Tangsa variety in Arunachal Pradesh. Until around 2012, the script stayed mainly handwritten among Mossang and his students. A 2013 Unicode proposal describes it as a newly constructed alphabet unrelated to existing scripts. In 2020, the Tangsa Script Development Committee promoted it publicly. Some Tangsa communities also use Latin-based spellings; the same written vowel-tone category is pronounced differently across varieties.
