What 𖪥 means
Use Keyman’s Tangsa Lakhum layout.
What sound does Tangsa Ya represent?
It represents the y consonant. Tangsa letters keep consonants and vowels separate, and each vowel letter carries its tone. Ya fills the consonant position; the following vowel letter marks the vowel and tone.
How did the Tangsa script develop?
Lakhum Mossang began it in 1990. He developed the alphabet for his native Muishvung (Mossang) variety. Tangsa languages are spoken across northeastern India and northwestern Myanmar. A 2019 revision added four vowel forms for a short “uh” sound. A 2020 account retells a Tangsa story in which Rangfraa, a creator figure, gives people writing on animal skin that they eat and lose. A 2013 Unicode proposal describes this modern script as unrelated by descent to existing scripts.
