What 𘢦 means

It is one piece inside a larger Tangut character. Scholars use components to sort Tangut dictionaries and describe how full characters are built.

The Tangut script was created for the Western Xia kingdom in 1036 to write state communications, Chinese classics, and Buddhist texts. Tangut Buddhist books continued to be printed under the Yuan after the kingdom fell in 1227. The woodblock-printed Tangut dictionary Homonyms, compiled after 1188, shows 𘢦 as a left-side component extending beneath a full character.

If it appears as a box, your current font may lack Tangut coverage.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𘢦 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
