What 𘢧 means
It is a component, not a standalone word.
This structural Tangut component is used to describe and index larger Tangut characters. The labels Tangut component 168 and radical R0168 identify it in modern reference material; neither gives the glyph a dependable word meaning or spoken reading.
Some indexes call it Tangut radical R0168. Here, radical is an indexing label, not a claim that it is one of the Chinese radicals. Tangut is a distinct script, and a similar square shape does not give this component a Chinese reading.
Why does Unicode include Tangut components?
The script served a language; the component list serves analysis.
The Tangut script was created under the first Western Xia emperor around 1036 to write the Tangut language. It appeared in official, private, and religious texts, including books, Buddhist sutras, inscriptions, and manuscripts. It continued under Yuan and Ming rule before becoming obsolete by the end of Ming. Unicode’s component set supports lookup and structural analysis, including short descriptions of how a full character’s parts fit together.
Tangut writing also interacted with Chinese literary culture through translation, education, and Buddhist texts. That is a historical connection between traditions; it does not make Tangut component 168 a Chinese character.
Technical and specialist; alone, 𘢧 reads as a Tangut-script specimen, not a complete message.
168 is the index number, not the glyph’s reading or translation.
