Tangut Component 319

319/768

𘤾 is a numbered analysis component used to describe and index Tangut characters, not a word read on its own. It belongs mainly in work on Tangut writing, dictionaries, and fonts. If it appears as a box or blank, the font may not have a Tangut glyph for it.

What 𘤾 means

Tangut component 319 is a structural part used to describe and index larger Tangut characters. Tangut characters are built from components; scholars use component lists and stroke order to arrange dictionaries and explain how characters are formed. This component has no standalone reading as a word.

Tangut writing was created at Emperor Li Yuanhao's order in 1036 for state-building and practical administration in the Xixia (Western Xia) state. Its forms and construction were influenced by Chinese writing, but Tangut remained a separate script. It was used for business correspondence and Buddhist translations; later Tangut books also carried Chinese classics, encyclopedias, military treatises, and literature. A manuscript fragment from Khara-Khoto probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century; the script's documented span runs from 1036 to 1502.

Unicode's Tangut components preserve that analysis layer digitally: they can help index characters and appear in Ideographic Description Sequences (IDS), short formulas showing how a character's parts fit together. Component numbers belong to a modern description system, not an ancient Tangut gloss; different systems can group characters differently.

How can I enter 𘤾?

Use an input method that accepts Unicode code points. This component has no dedicated key on an ordinary keyboard. Enter U1893E in a Unicode input tool; exact keystrokes depend on your device.

If a square, question mark, or blank appears, the active font or app may lack a Tangut glyph. Fonts can draw the same character differently; a fallback mark does not change its identity.

Specialist and archival: alone in a chat, 𘤾 reads as a reference mark rather than an ordinary message.

Its component number labels an analysis entry; it does not translate as a word.

1

Why does 𘤾 show as a box?

The active font or app may lack a usable Tangut glyph. A fallback box, question mark, or blank is a rendering problem, not a different character.
