What 𘦶 means
It describes a piece in the structure of larger Tangut characters. Scholars use Tangut components and stroke order to index ideographs in dictionaries and glossaries and to analyze how those characters are built. Some components appear in Ideographic Description Sequences (IDS), short chains that show the relative positions of a character’s parts instead of forming a word or sentence.
The Tangut script was created under the first emperor of Western Xia around 1036 to write the Tangut language. Its design drew on Chinese and Khitan scripts, but Tangut is its own writing system. It carried Buddhist, historical, legal, economic, and translated texts. After Western Xia fell, writing in Tangut continued during the Yuan and Ming dynasties; the script was rediscovered in the late 19th century and is studied as an extinct script.
