What 𘧹 means
It names a structural piece used to index and describe Tangut characters. Scholars use components and stroke order to find characters in dictionaries, analyze their construction, and build Ideographic Description Sequences (IDS): short written descriptions of a character's parts and layout.
A Tangut reference book printed from carved wooden blocks groups components by their position and gives character examples. A 2018 study matched an entry from that list to Component 506. Unicode's component set combines material from several dictionaries and studies because Tangut scholars do not share one standard set.
Why was Tangut writing created?
The Western Xia state commissioned Tangut writing as its own written medium. The state ruled parts of northwest China; the script was created under imperial orders around 1036. It supported government and a written culture that included Buddhist books, translations of Chinese and Tibetan works, Confucian texts, reference books, military writing, and literature.
After Western Xia fell, the script outlived it. Tangut writing drew inspiration from Chinese writing and neighboring Khitan scripts while remaining a distinct system that cannot simply be read as Chinese. It continued in Yuan and Ming times; by the end of the Ming it had become obsolete. Component 506's number belongs to modern cataloguing, not the script's history.
How do I type or display 𘧹?
For hexadecimal Unicode input, enter U189F9. In an editor with Unicode hex entry, type the code point and trigger that editor's conversion command. Software using UTF-16 stores it as two 16-bit units, a surrogate pair; Unicode-aware input normally handles that representation for you.
The font determines its visible form. Without Tangut coverage, an app may show a square, a blank, or a fallback symbol; the character identity does not change.
Specialist notation for cataloguing and analyzing Tangut characters, not a conversational word.
Don't translate it as a word; it denotes a structural component.

1Why does 𘧹 show as a box?
It can. A font or app without Tangut coverage may show a missing-glyph box, blank space, or fallback marker; try a font that supports Tangut.

A visible symbol can contain several code points. JS .length counts UTF-16 units; UTF-8 counts bytes.
