Tangut Component 527

527/768

𘨎 is a Tangut component for indexing and describing characters; it is not a standalone word. Song records date the creation of the Xixia script, also called Tangut, to 1036 for writing the language of the Western Xia kingdom. Surviving laws, dictionaries, documents, and Buddhist books show use through 1502. The earliest dated Buddhist book from Khara Khoto, a Tangut manuscript site, is from 1084.

What 𘨎 means

It is a lookup label, not a Tangut word.

“Tangut radical 527” is an index, not a reading; dictionaries differ in their component lists.

Tangut’s square forms reflect Chinese writing’s influence, but the script remains distinct.
