Tangut Component-540

540/768

𘨛 is one of the structural parts used to analyze Tangut characters; by itself, it has no established word reading. A specialist Tangut input method can select components by stroke pattern rather than pronunciation.

Text symbol

What 𘨛 means

It is a structural part, not a standalone Tangut word.

Tangut components help dictionaries and scholars describe how larger characters are built and index them. An Ideographic Description Sequence (IDS) is a short formula that records a character's structure. Here, 𘨛 functions as a structural label; it has no separate word meaning or reading.

Developed around 1036 under imperial direction, the Tangut script was made to write the Tangut language. It appears in official records, private writing, and Buddhist books; its documented use spans 1036–1502. Its design drew on Chinese writing, but Tangut and Chinese characters were mutually illegible. A component can contribute meaning or sound within a Tangut character, and its role can vary from one character to another.

How do I type 𘨛?

A stroke-based Tangut input method can select it by shape.

Ordinary phonetic typing has no natural Tangut reading to enter for this component. BabelPad includes a Tangut stroke-code input method that selects components by their written structure.

If it appears as a box, the font may lack Tangut Components coverage. BabelStone Tangut Wenhai's 2016 release included only part of the encoded components, so a different font may be needed to display this glyph.

For Tangut scholarship, dictionaries, and font development; not an ordinary word in messages.

A bare 𘨛 is not a Tangut word with a known standalone reading.
