What 𘩮 means
It is one part of a complete Tangut character. “Tangut component-623” is the modern catalog label for 𘩮, not its historical name, pronunciation, or translation. Scholars use Tangut components and stroke order to index, describe, and analyze whole characters in dictionaries and character databases.
The Xixia script was commissioned by the Western Xia court to write the Tangut language. It served state business and Buddhist publishing, including scripture translation and printing. Recorded use spans 1036 to 1502; Buddhist texts carried the writing beyond the Western Xia state.
Why does Tangut component-623 look like Chinese?
Tangut resembles Chinese writing but is a separate script. Tangut writing was modeled in part on Chinese characters, which explains the visual echo. That does not make it Chinese: knowing Chinese does not let you read Tangut, and this component is not a Chinese radical. Tangut dictionaries use their own component inventories.
If someone sends 𘩮 alone, ask for the complete character or more context before reading it as a word.
Technical reference: appropriate for Tangut writing, historical texts, and component analysis.
“623” is an inventory number, not a pronunciation or translation.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘩮 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut Components block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
