What 𗀒 means
Use Unicode entry with U17012 if your app supports it.
Enter the code point in an app or input method that accepts Unicode code-point entry; the exact keystrokes depend on the system. Ordinary keyboard layouts may not have a dedicated key for it.
If it appears as a box or with a different design, your device or app lacks a font that can render Tangut. The character itself is text, and its appearance comes from the font.
What does 𗀒 mean?
It belongs to a Tangut term for a Buddhist monk.
The dictionary entry records 𗀒 as the second character in 𗇇𗀒, the Tangut form glossed “Buddhist monk.” Its second element reflects Middle Chinese 尚, an older form of Chinese used in 和尚, a term for a Buddhist monk. The historical link does not make the two characters interchangeable.
Tangut script was created around 1036 under the rulers of Western Xia for state writing and Buddhist translations. Its designs drew on Chinese characters and the neighboring Khitan writing tradition, but Tangut was a distinct script. A dated record from Guazhou in 1070/1071 may be the earliest known surviving example; later manuscripts include Buddhist and secular works.
A specialist historical character suited to Tangut text, study, or a deliberate script reference.
For “Buddhist monk,” the recorded form is 𗇇𗀒; don’t use 𗀒 alone.
