What 𗀟 means
Tangut dictionaries gloss it as “to marry.”
Tangut was the language of Western Xia, a state in northwestern China. Its script resembles Chinese writing but belongs to a different language.
Western Xia emperor Li Yuanhao ordered the script in 1036 for government and cultural identity. It carried translations from Chinese and Tibetan; compiling a Buddhist scripture collection was likely another aim. A Khara-khoto manuscript fragment probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century. Tangut writing remained in use through 1502 in Buddhist, Confucian, military, reference, and literary texts.
