What 𗀞 means
Its Tangut glosses are the verb “to coagulate” and the noun “meat.”
The Tangut lexicons Wenhai (“Sea of Writing”) and Tongyin (“Homophones”) record it in the 12th century. Li Fanwen’s scholarly reconstruction writes its reading as *tọ¹, an inferred historical pronunciation.
Tangut was the language of Western Xia, whose script was established around 1036 during the state’s formation. The square forms reflect Chinese influence, while Tangut is a distinct script. Writing continued in Buddhist and other texts after Western Xia fell in 1227.
Historical and specialist; it belongs in Tangut study, archival texts, or deliberate script display.
Chinese influence does not make 𗀞 a Chinese character.
