What 𗀢 means
It means “to drive out” or “to expel.”
In Tangut, the language written with the Tangut script, 𗀢 functions as a verb. Tóngyīn (“Homophones”) is the title of a Tangut dictionary that preserves the entry.
Why was Tangut script created?
For the Tangut language and the needs of the Western Xia state.
Development began in 1036–1037, and the state promoted the script for official records. An official document sent to a military official in Guazhou in 1072 is cited as the earliest surviving example of the script.
Tangut was also used for translations of Buddhist texts from Chinese and Tibetan, and of Chinese classics. After Western Xia fell in 1227, Tangut writing continued in later records, although the language eventually fell out of use. Khitan and Jurchen states developed scripts in the same broad regional period; that shared setting does not establish a family tree between individual signs.
