What 𗀹 means
The numbered label is an inventory tag, not a translation.
Unicode builds Tangut labels from each character’s assigned number. The number identifies the catalog entry, not its pronunciation or word meaning. To learn the reading and gloss, identify 𗀹 in a Tangut dictionary or explained passage.
Tangut is a separate script; a Chinese reading cannot be inferred from this character’s shape alone.
Why was Tangut writing created?
It gave the Tangut language a script for state and cultural life.
Western Xia’s first emperor commissioned Tangut writing around 1036 for the Tangut language. The court promoted it as a national script and used it in diplomacy.
Texts include school materials, Chinese translations, inscriptions, and Buddhist works. Tangut remained in use under the Yuan and Ming dynasties after Western Xia fell, then eventually became obsolete.

1Why does 𗀹 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
