What 𗂧 means
It means “country” or “nation” in Tangut.
Tangut was the language of Western Xia (Xīxià in Chinese), an empire in today’s northwestern China. Emperor Li Yuanhao had the script promulgated in 1036 for state and Buddhist texts.
It stars in 𗴂𗹭𗂧𘜶, “Great Kingdom of the White and Lofty,” the name Western Xia gave its state. The dynasty fell in 1227; the script outlived it: Buddhist pillars dated 1502 are the last datable Tangut writing. Its characters were invented, though the crowded look echoes Chinese and Khitan.
