What 𗂷 means
It means “to sew,” or “to follow a pattern.”
Both glosses point to a related action: stitching material or following an established design. Because Tangut is extinct, scholars reconstruct its readings from written evidence, and references can differ.
The character appears in 12th century entries of Wénhǎi (“Sea of Writing”) and Tóngyīn (“Homophones”), two Tangut reference works. These records place it in the historical Tangut lexicon.
Why does 𗂷 look like Chinese?
Tangut is a separate script for the Tangut language.
Created under the first emperor of the Tangut-ruled Western Xia about 1036, the script was used in official, private, and religious texts, including books, Buddhist sutras, inscriptions, and manuscripts. It continued for a time after Western Xia fell, then passed out of use.
Its characters can look familiar if you know Chinese writing, but 𗂷 is Tangut, not a Chinese ideograph.
Using 𗂷 in a message reads as specialist historical-text or digital-text work, not a casual reaction.
