What 𗂽 means
It means “sheep” in Tangut. Scholars reconstruct its old reading as *jij²; this is an academic estimate of its pronunciation.
The Tangut script was created for the Western Xia kingdom in 1036 and used for government and Buddhist texts. The latest known monument with a Tangut inscription dates to 1502. The character also appears in a complete manuscript of the Buddhist work Grains of Gold Placed in the Palm.
In that manuscript, 𗂽 is paired with 𗅻 in a sheep-and-goat contrast. 𗅻 is a related Tangut livestock word, not another spelling of 𗂽.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗂽 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
