What 𗄠 means

Its reconstructed reading does not supply a reliable English translation.

One scholarly reconstruction gives *ŋwu², roughly “ng-woo,” beginning with the nasal at the end of “sing”; other reconstructions differ. Tongyin, a Tangut sound dictionary, cites 𗄠 in the 12th century, but the English gloss remains unsettled.

Created in 1036, the Tangut script served Western Xia government and Buddhist writing. Later texts also include Chinese, military and literary works. Its design draws on Chinese character writing and may reflect Khitan influence.
