What 𗆲 means

A reconstructed reading is sound, not a translation.

Tangut dictionaries preserve several reconstructed readings. As of 2026-09-16, the cited lexical record gives no settled English gloss for 𗆲.

The Unicode label identifies the encoded slot, not the Tangut word. Without a translated passage around it, leave the meaning open.

Where does 𗆲 come from?

It belongs to the state script of medieval Western Xia.

The History of Song, a Chinese dynastic chronicle, credits the official Yeli Renrong with establishing the Tangut script around 1036. The script served state and cultural work: schools taught it, officials used it in documents, and Buddhist texts were translated and printed from carved woodblocks.

An entry for 𗆲 is cited in Sea of Writing, a Tangut rhyming dictionary from the 12th century. This places the graph in the surviving record by then, not necessarily at its first use. After Western Xia fell in 1227, Tangut writing continued in Buddhist works. Two Buddhist inscription pillars from 1502 are recorded as the latest known examples. Tangut writing drew on Chinese script traditions; direct Khitan influence remains debated.

What does 𗆲 mean when sent alone?

Treat it as a character sample until its source is known.

A one-character message cannot tell you whether it quotes a Tangut text or asks about the graph. Ask for the surrounding passage or a translation before responding to a presumed meaning.

Historical and specialist; in casual chat it reads as an unidentified character sample.

Do not infer a translation from its shape or encoded label.
