Tangut Component 053

53/768

𘠴 is a structural part used to describe or index Tangut characters; it is not a word to translate on its own. In Tangut scholarship, components help explain how larger characters are built and catalogued. “053” is a catalogue label, not a translation.

What 𘠴 means

It is a character part, not a word to translate.

Think of it as one piece in a larger written character: its role comes from the full construction around it. In Tangut research, component sets help describe and index complete characters; the number is a catalogue label.

The Tangut script was established in 1036 under the Western Xia court for government use and to translate Buddhist and other learned texts. Its appearance drew inspiration from Chinese writing, and it developed alongside Khitan scripts. That is the history of the writing system; this component's role is structural.

Tangut word or component?

It is a reusable part for indexing and analyzing Tangut characters.

Tangut components were reusable pieces within complex characters. Scholars also use component sets to file and analyze full characters: dictionaries organize entries by components, and formal descriptions can spell out a character's structure using its parts. Different scholarly sets classify characters differently, so this number belongs to a catalogue system, not a universal list.

One published table places 𘠴 on the right side of a full Tangut character. That shows its position in that example, not a pronunciation or an independent syllable.

How do I type Tangut Component-053?

Use an input method that supports Tangut characters.

Tangut input methods vary by operating system. A system character picker or Unicode entry method may work if it supports the Tangut block. Without a Tangut font, an app may show a blank box or fallback mark even though the text character is unchanged.

A specialist structural mark: useful in character analysis, opaque on its own.

Alone, it may look like an unsupported glyph or unexplained code.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𘠴 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut Components block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
