What 𗈄 means
“To abuse” is the word-level gloss, not a message by itself.
A Tangut reference index lists it as entry L1517. Recorded compounds place it at both ends of a word: 𗈄𗠖 begins with it, while 𗖣𗈄 ends with it. The surrounding Tangut text carries the word’s meaning.
The Tangut script was created in 1036 under the Western Xia (Xixia) ruler Li Yuanhao for state-building and Buddhist texts. Surviving manuscripts also contain translations of Chinese works and secular writing. A 12th-century Tangut homophone text—a work that groups words by sound—records 𗈄 too.
Why does 𗈄 show as a box?
A missing Tangut font changes the display, not the character.
Unicode identifies 𗈄; a font draws its visible strokes. If a message shows a blank box, the receiving app or device lacks a font that covers Tangut. A Tangut-capable font in an editor can display the character.
In ordinary chat, it reads as a specialist or historical character unless both people know Tangut.
Do not read “to abuse” as a personal insult without the surrounding Tangut word.

Questions people ask
1Is 𗈄 a Chinese character?
No. It belongs to Tangut, a separate script influenced by Chinese writing; that influence does not make 𗈄 a Chinese character.
