What 𗈅 means
One dictionary gloss is “to return.” Li Fanwen’s 2008 Tangut-Chinese Dictionary lists 𗈅 as L2008-1455.
Created around 1036 for the Tangut language in Western Xia, a state in northwestern China, the script supported Buddhist translation and state identity. Its design drew on Chinese writing principles and earlier scripts of the Khitan, a people who ruled neighboring states, but Tangut remained distinct. A surviving manuscript from Khara-Khoto, a Gobi settlement, probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century.
Tangut reference glyphs are examples, not mandatory drawings: fonts may draw 𗈅 with different strokes while keeping the same character identity.
A historical Tangut reading best understood with text or a gloss.
When using it for “to return,” add a gloss for readers unfamiliar with Tangut.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗈅 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
