What 𗈿 means
Its standalone gloss is unresolved.
Tangut dictionaries record reconstructed readings, but a reading is not a translation. The standalone meaning of 𗈿 remains unsettled.
Where was 𗈿 used?
It belongs to the historical Tangut writing tradition.
Created around 1036 under the first Western Xia emperor, the Tangut script was used to write the Tangut language. 𗈿 appears in two Tangut dictionaries from the 12th century: the Sea of Writing, a rhyme dictionary, and the Homophones dictionary.
After Western Xia fell to the Mongols, Tangut writing remained in use through the Yuan and Ming dynasties, then became obsolete by the end of the Ming dynasty. Scholars rediscovered it in the late 19th century and largely deciphered it in the early 20th century. Tangut texts survive from official, private, and religious settings.
In scholarly or archival settings, using 𗈿 signals interest in Tangut texts.
Tangut characters can resemble Chinese ideographs, but the scripts are distinct.

Questions people ask
1Can two fonts draw 𗈿 differently?
Yes. Tangut source texts preserve variant glyph forms, and Unicode unifies some variants that are not contrastive in a source. A different outline alone does not establish a different character.
