What 𗊜 means
A Tangut dictionary glosses 𗊜 as “milk.”
As of 2026, Tangut has no living speakers; its pronunciation is reconstructed from written evidence.
The Tangut script was created around 1036 under Western Xia’s first emperor to write the Tangut language, and served official, private, and Buddhist texts. This character appears in the 12th-century reference work Tóngyīn (“Homophones”). Writing continued under the Yuan and Ming dynasties and became obsolete by the end of the Ming. Scholars rediscovered the script in the late 19th century; N. A. Nevskij’s work in the early 20th century advanced its decipherment.
