What 𗌁 means
It is a Tangut character glossed as “sleep” or “slumber.”
Li Fanwen’s Tangut–Chinese index lists 𗌁 as L3001, with the Chinese character 寐 (“sleep” or “slumber”) as its gloss; Clauson’s index links the glyph to entry #5116. The Tangut script originated around 1036 under Li Yuanhao, Western Xia’s first emperor, for writing Tangut and state correspondence. It drew on Chinese and Khitan models and served official, private, and religious writing. Surviving manuscripts date from the mid-11th century into the early 13th century. After Western Xia fell in 1227, Buddhist use continued: two Tangut dharani pillars—stone monuments bearing Buddhist invocations—were erected in 1502.
Why does 𗌁 show as a box?
The selected font may not contain Tangut glyphs.
A Tangut-capable font can draw the character; a font without one may show a missing-glyph box. The box is a display problem, not a different glyph.
What does it mean if someone sends 𗌁 alone?
It points to sleep, but it cannot tell you why it was sent.
Read it through its Tangut dictionary gloss; the sender’s choice may depend on the surrounding text or context. If the recipient does not read Tangut, include the gloss in your message.
Historical and specialist; a gloss helps readers who do not read Tangut.
A box is a font failure, not another reading.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗌁 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
