What 𗌥 means

It is Tangut; the code-point label is not a translation. 𗌥 is a character used to write the historical Tangut language. “Tangut Ideograph-17325” identifies its encoded position; it does not tell you a word or pronunciation. For a reading, consult a Tangut dictionary or the surrounding manuscript passage.

Tangut writing was commissioned for the Western Xia state around 1036–1037. A surviving manuscript fragment from Khara-khoto probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century.

The script served Buddhist scripture, state administration and literature, including translations of Chinese and Tibetan works. Its forms were visually inspired by Chinese writing and developed alongside Khitan writing, but Tangut is its own script, not Chinese in another font.

How do I type Tangut character 17325?

Use a Unicode picker or enter U17325. In a Unicode-aware editor that accepts code-point input, enter U17325; a character picker is another route. The number is an address, not a pronunciation key.

If it appears as a square, your font may lack Tangut coverage; the character can still be encoded correctly. A font with Tangut support can display the same character.

Unicode's Tangut data assigns 𘠣 as the structural lookup component for 𗌥 (component 36). It groups characters by shape for lookup, not by meaning or pronunciation.

What happened to Tangut writing after Western Xia?

Tangut writing outlived the Western Xia state that commissioned it. After the state fell to the Mongols, Tangut sources continued beyond 1227 and were mostly Buddhist.

The latest known Tangut inscription is dated 1502. Unicode 9.0 marks this character's digital encoding, not the beginning of Tangut writing.

Specialist and archival; on its own, the character reads as a script sample rather than ordinary conversation.

Do not call it Chinese or guess a Chinese meaning from its shape.
