What 𗍏 means
It marks a syllable in Tangut transliteration.
Reference works classify it as a transliteration sign and reconstruct its syllabic reading as sju² in scholarly Latin notation. It marks Chinese words by sound rather than translating them.
𗍏 appears in Tóngyīn, a 12th-century Tangut reference work. Tangut writing began in 1036 for Western Xia state use and cultural identity; it carried Buddhist translations and Chinese classics. It followed an earlier Khitan writing precedent but remained a distinct script. Unicode 16.0's Tangut chart is non-prescriptive, so fonts may draw it differently.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗍏 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
