tangut ideograph-17462

Tangut character 17462

1123/6136

𗑢 is a Tangut character; its number-based Unicode name is a catalog label, not a translation. The Tangut, or Xixia, script was created in 1036 for the Western Xia state's language and culture; it may also have marked a distinct identity from Song China, despite drawing on Chinese writing. After the Mongol conquest in 1227, surviving Tangut texts were mostly Buddhist. If a box appears, your font lacks Tangut support.

Questions people ask

Why does 𗑢 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
