What 𗑶 means
Tangut dictionaries gloss it as “straight.”
The Tangut script was created around 1036 for the Tangut language under Western Xia (Xixia); its written record begins in the 11th century. It drew on Chinese and Khitan writing traditions but remained distinct. After Western Xia fell, Tangut writing continued in the Yuan and Ming dynasties in Buddhist texts, legal records, and private documents.
Why does 𗑶 appear as a square?
A square usually means the active font lacks Tangut glyphs. Unicode still identifies 𗑶, but a font with Tangut coverage is needed to draw it.
