tangut ideograph-17487

Tangut Character

1160/6136

𗒇 is a character in the Tangut (Xixia) script, which wrote the now-extinct Tangut language. Created about 1036 to serve the Western Xia state and support Buddhist translation, the script drew on Chinese writing for its forms and character-building; an earlier Khitan script offered a neighboring precedent. Tangut remained a distinct script, used for official texts and translations, including Buddhist works, and persisted after Western Xia fell.

Why does 𗒇 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
