What 𗒪 means

“Altar” is the safest short gloss; “ritual seat” also fits.

The moon mandala term is 𗼑𗒪 and the sun mandala term is 𗾔𗒪. A 2023 study reads 𗒪 as their altar element and considers a ritual-seat interpretation, with semicircular or circular imagery.

The Tangut script was commissioned in 1036 for state-building and Buddhist translation. It also carried Confucian, military, and literary works. A Khara-Khoto manuscript, probably from the 12th or early 13th century, preserves 𗒪.

Why does 𗒪 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
