What 𗖷 means

Its recorded dictionary meaning is “anger.”

Li Fanwen’s Tangut–Chinese dictionary glosses 𗖷 this way. In a passage, it functions as a written word; the surrounding text supplies the rest of the sentence’s meaning.

Why was Tangut writing created?

It gave Xixia a script for government, religion, and identity.

Created around 1036, the Tangut script served Xixia (Western Xia), a state led by Tangut people. It was used in government and Buddhist translation, including a Tangut version of the Buddhist canon (a collection of Buddhist scriptures), as well as legal and secular works. A distinct script also marked Tangut identity beside the neighboring Song dynasty in China.

Tangut writing drew inspiration from Chinese and Khitan scripts but remained distinct. A surviving manuscript example may date to the 12th or early 13th century; the script continued in use during China’s Yuan and Ming dynasties, and the latest known inscription is dated 1502.

Historical and specialist; pair it with a plain-language gloss in ordinary messages.

Why is 𗖷 a box on my screen?

fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
