Tangut Component-393

𘦈 is a structural part used in the Tangut script, the writing system of the medieval Tangut people; on its own, it is not a word. Scholars use such parts to index and describe whole characters. “393” is an inventory number, not a translation.

What 𘦈 means

It labels a structural part, not a word. Tangut component lists help scholars find characters and describe how their parts fit together. They also support Ideographic Description Sequences (IDS), a notation that shows how a character is assembled. “Tangut component 393” is an inventory label, not a native Tangut name; numbering varies between component systems.

Inside a whole character, the surrounding parts show how this component functions. A documented analysis of 𗁁 places 𘦈 on the right, with another part to its left.

Why was the Tangut script created?

Western Xia’s ruler Li Yuanhao ordered the script in 1036 for government and Buddhist writing. It also served literature and helped distinguish the Tangut-led state from Song China. Tangut scribes adapted Chinese character design and followed the neighboring Khitan tradition of making scripts.

Later Tangut books included translations of Chinese Confucian, military, reference, and literary works, along with texts translated from Tibetan. A manuscript from Khara-khoto probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century; it preserves Buddhist material and translations.

A specialist reference character suited to Tangut text analysis and font testing, not ordinary messages.

Alone, it will not reliably read as a word; show it in a complete Tangut character or explain its role.

Why does 𘦈 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
