What 𗘡 means
It marks the lower part of a Tangut character.
This Tangut bottom character appears in the Sea of Characters, a Tangut rhyming dictionary compiled in the mid-12th century, as a structural label for other characters.
Emperor Li Yuanhao ordered Tangut writing around 1036 CE for Western Xia (Xixia) state-building; one aim was a Tangut-language edition of the Buddhist canon. The script followed earlier forms from the neighboring Khitan people and drew on Chinese writing without deriving from it. It continued under Yuan and Ming rule after Western Xia fell.
If 𗘡 shows as a box, your font may lack Tangut coverage.
“Bottom” means position here, not “down.”

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗘡 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
