What 𗙺 means
It means “shed,” a small outbuilding for storage or work.
The Tangut script was created around 1036 to support Western Xia state-building, Buddhist scripture, and a distinct political identity. Its forms drew on Chinese visual and compositional principles without being derived from Chinese writing, and its creators followed the example of neighboring Khitan scripts.
A manuscript found at Khara-khoto—a ruined medieval settlement—probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century and shows the wider script in use. After Western Xia fell, Tangut writing continued for a time before becoming obsolete.
Why does 𗙺 show as a box?
That usually means the font lacks Tangut coverage.
Tangut needs a font that contains its characters; a font without them may show an empty box or another missing-character mark.
Unicode 16.0.0 documents source variants for Tangut—different forms preserved in historical sources—so two fonts can draw the same encoded character with different outlines without changing its meaning.
Specialized, archival, and typographic: it suits Tangut study and historical texts more than casual messaging.
