What 𗜜 means
It is a Tangut character with competing sound clues.
A Buddhist dhāraṇī (ritual chant) uses 𗜜 with 𗑓 in a two-character sound clue for djo². The Tangut sound list Homonyms groups it under dwu² (“similar”), alongside entries read dwu² and twu¹. A proposal therefore suggests dwu or twu for 𗜜; “similar” names the group, not necessarily this glyph’s meaning.
The script was created in 1036 to write Tangut and express Western Xia state identity. Its forms drew on Chinese writing but served a separate language. It carried official records and Buddhist works; Buddhist inscriptions continued after the state fell in 1227, including one dated 1502.
