What 𗝀 means
Use Rime with the Xunpin Tangut input scheme. As of 2026, enter the Latin-letter reconstructed spelling tshex or Four-Corner code v504274.
Is 𗝀 a Chinese character?
No. Tangut is a separate script. Li Yuanhao, ruler of the Western Xia state, ordered Tangut writing in 1036 chiefly to translate Buddhist scriptures and also to mark a distinct state identity.
Tangut’s square forms were inspired by Chinese regular writing but were not derived from Chinese. Neighboring Khitan rulers had created two scripts of their own, a regional precedent. Tangut writing also appeared in government records and nonreligious books and continued under the Yuan and Ming after Western Xia fell.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗝀 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
