What 𗝋 means

A Tangut–Chinese dictionary gives its meaning as “pole.” Context tells you why it was sent.

What was Tangut writing for?

It wrote the Tangut language for Western Xia.

Created around 1036, it appears to have marked Tangut identity alongside Song China. It remained in use under Yuan and Ming after Western Xia fell, and was obsolete by the end of Ming. Its texts included official records, Buddhist works, Chinese works translated into Tangut, Confucian classics, encyclopedias, military writing, and literature. Tangut resembles Chinese writing but is a separate script.
