What 𗝠 means
It means tree, wood, or firewood in Tangut.
In the Tangut compound 𗤰𗝠, 𗤰 means “sour,” and the whole word means “plum tree.” The sour element points to the fruit, while 𗝠 supplies the tree sense.
The Tangut script—a writing system for the Tangut language—was created in 1036 for the Western Xia state. It served government and Buddhist translation and helped mark a distinct political identity from Song China. After Western Xia fell in 1227, Tangut writing continued under later dynasties. An inscription dated 1502 is cited as the latest known surviving example of Tangut writing.
How do I type 𗝠?
Text input needs Tangut support; escapes belong in code.
For ordinary text, use an input method or character map that supports Tangut. The forms below use language-specific syntax for markup or source code; they are not keyboard shortcuts.
Why does 𗝠 show as a box?
A box means your active font lacks this glyph.
Unicode gives the character a stable identity; fonts supply its drawn shape. Tangut sources also preserve variant forms, so two fonts can draw the same encoded character differently. When its shape matters, use a font with Tangut coverage.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗝠 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
