What 𗝭 means
A Tangut dictionary glosses 𗝭 as “stake.” A Tangut phonetic database reconstructs its reading as “ve,” using Latin letters for the scholarly transcription. Tangut is a language with its own script; Chinese writing influenced the script’s design, but the two are not interchangeable.
The Tangut script was created under Western Xia’s first emperor around 1036 CE. It supported state-building and a distinct Tangut political identity; one major project was a Tangut Buddhist canon, a collection of Buddhist scriptures. Surviving Tangut texts also cover official, private, and religious life.
A Tangut manuscript fragment from Khara-Khoto probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century. Tangut writing continued under later dynasties, then fell out of use; scholars rediscovered it in the late 19th century.
How do I type 𗝭?
Use a Unicode-aware editor or Tangut lookup tool. Ordinary keyboard layouts may not include Tangut. Older Tangut fonts can use legacy encodings, so their text may need conversion to Unicode.
Why does 𗝭 look like a box?
A missing-glyph box means the font lacks Tangut support. The character is text drawn by a font, so its display depends on the fonts available to the app. A font with Tangut coverage can show it.
Its context is historical Tangut writing or specialist study.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗝭 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
