What 𗠒 means
In the reconstructed passage, it means “up” or “high.”
𗠒 belongs to the Tangut script, created to write the Tangut language and used by the Western Xia state and in Buddhist texts. Its form may resemble Chinese writing, but it is not a Chinese character.
A 2024 study reconstructs the damaged phrase 𗠒𗹭 as “high upon” and gives 𗠒 the scholarly transcription bjɨ¹. A separate 2024 comparison lists competing scholarly readings: Sofronov’s mbɪ and Gong’s bjɨ. If you see a box in place of 𗠒, your font may lack Tangut support.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗠒 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
