What 𗠜 means
It supplies “call” in one documented Tangut bird phrase.
In a Tangut translation of the Huayan Sutra, a Buddhist scripture, 𘎃𗠜 is glossed “bird call.” Scholars reconstruct a Tangut reading, bji², written with Latin letters.
The Tangut script served Western Xia (Xixia), drawing on Chinese writing and the neighboring Khitan script, another regional writing system. It was introduced around 1036 for government, education, official records, and Buddhist texts. The earliest securely dated surviving document is from 1069 or 1070. Tangut writing continued under the Yuan and Ming dynasties; the latest known inscription dates to 1502. These dates concern the script and its surviving record, not the first use of 𗠜.

1Why does 𗠜 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
