What 𗢶 means
Its dictionary gloss is “circle.”
Li Fanwen’s 2008 dictionary numbers it 2263. “Tangut Ideograph-178B6” is a computer label, not a translation.
Why was Tangut created?
It served Western Xia’s official and cultural life.
Around 1036, Western Xia ruler Jingzong established Tangut for official and cultural work. It drew on Chinese writing but remained distinct. Other states used Khitan and Jurchen scripts then.
Western Xia texts include Buddhist translations. After Mongols conquered Western Xia, Tangut left everyday use. That date belongs to the script, not 𗢶’s first appearance.

Chinese influence does not make 𗢶 a Chinese character.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗢶 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
