What 𗣱 means
The dictionary gloss is “to cover.” A Tangut dictionary by scholar Li Fanwen indexes this exact glyph under that gloss. Surrounding words show how it fits in a sentence.
Is 𗣱 a Chinese character?
No. It writes Tangut, not Chinese. Tangut was the language of the Western Xia state. Its Xixia script was created around 1036 by the state’s first emperor to write Tangut. Its square forms recall Chinese characters, and Tangut books include Chinese translations, but this glyph writes Tangut.
How was Tangut written?
Historically, Tangut ran top to bottom. Wenhai (“Sea of Writing”), a Tangut dictionary, lists this glyph as an entry. Historical pages used columns ordered right to left; current practice is horizontal, left to right.
Writing continued under the Yuan and Ming after Western Xia fell, then became obsolete by the end of the Ming.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗣱 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
